Masses like being average

Posted by Suman on Mar 10, 2019

Have you ever wondered, why at times, a new sport or practice really takes off?

Why one day it is obscure and the next day it is almost a culture or a phenomenon?

Why people, when they hear the name, eventually stop asking "What is that?"

It is because of this ...

It provides another reason/way/excuse for the masses to remain average.

Yet another thing to be mediocre or "just okay" at.

You see technology and the Internet is not really making things more popular.

It is not really making the world "more connected".

It is not really "changing human lives".

What, the Internet, has really done, is that it has shown us the true color of the masses.

What "feeds the beast". What really makes them tick. What keeps them where they are.

It has shown us this ...

The masses are content being average. And thus,

almost no one really wants to be extraordinary.

I can already hear some of the responses to that.

People saying "No! I want to be extraordinary. Extraordinary in X/Y/Z!"

To which, I will say ...

What are you doing about it?

Because these are the same people who continue to do the same things day in day out,

reading the same books,

using the same programs,

attending the same seminars,

"following" other average people,

learning the same cues and technique,

making youtube videos of a "day in their life"

arguing about what is the best way to do this, that

...

How can they ever not be average?

They are desperately trying to be average!

The masses like average.

The masses want to do average things.

They will do anything and everything that catches their attention, that looks flashy and shiny enough.

In fact, most will gladly accept what I have stated above. These people will say the following things ...

"I just like it because it makes me feel good"

"It allows me to be in my zone"

"It is a part of my 'routine'"

"I like trying out different things"

...

Some will say that they want to compete.

Some of these may be competing on a regular basis.

Some of them may even be getting "placed" here and there.

Even these people sold themselves short ...

They didn't really want to compete, to win, to ever come out as the top

They will say those things

But they say it, as an answer to that inner voice

To keep that inner voice within themselves from constantly torturing them.

They do things to obey that inner voice

That is constantly ordering them to do this, to look up that, to try this, to become that ...

Because in reality, they don't know, why they do what they do.

So they continue to obey...

As long as they obey, they will find averageness too

Masses to compete with ...

Average competition results ...

An average rate of progress ...

Average experiences ...

But this is just half the battle.

The other half of the battle is the toughest

And that is the constant maintenance it takes on their part to obey that voice inside of them.

The harsh and soul-killing reality is that even these people are a part of the masses.

They are just another segment of it.

The segment that does anything and everything to deny the fact that, indeed, belong to the masses.

Is there a way out?

For the one who asks, certainly not.

Because there is "wanting out" and then there is "I can't stand it" wanting out.

Because the ones who ask are merely curious.

And at this time, satisfied with the mediocrity, cozied up in its warm nest while contemplating that question.

Because the ones who really want out, are already doing something about it.

Because they don't even see a choice to not do something about it.

Because reality hit them quite a while ago.

The reality of choice.

The choice between an average living stuck amongst the masses, in the mud of angst, doubt, and unsatisfaction.

Or leaving no stone unturned to steer clear of it.

Thank you.
